How it Works

Fractional Boat Ownership with the Grenada Sailing Club operates on a shared ownership model, where multiple individuals co-own a J/80 One Design sailboat. Owners enjoy the benefits of reduced costs, including maintenance, storage, and insurance, compared to sole ownership. This arrangement allows members access to a high-performance sailboat while sharing the responsibilities and expenses of boat ownership.

Once we have sold four shares in the boats we have now, we will bring in the next boat. Each will be split into four shares. Grenada Sailing Club will buy one share in each boat (Gotta have some skin in the game, right?) leaving three shares available for purchase.

Benefits of Fractional Ownership

Fractional Boat Ownership offers several benefits, including reduced costs as owners share expenses such as maintenance, insurance, and storage fees. It provides access to a high-quality sailboat without the financial burden of sole ownership. Additionally, owners can enjoy the convenience of scheduling sailing time based on availability and receive preferential treatment for racing events and special activities.

The Fleet

The J/80 is a fast, fun, and comfortable boat to sail. Their deep draft keel and ample ballast give them excellent stability. The large open cockpit makes them a comfortable boat to sail with friends. They are fast and responsive – so fun to sail and race. The sail plan points well and has good upwind speed.

J/Star

J Star – Is a 2005 J/80 built in France. The boat is 8 meters (26 feet) with a large open cockpit, retractable bowsprit designed for flying an Asymmetrical spinnaker. J Star former racing ground was Hamble Point, Bristol, England. The distinctive royal blue hull and star patterns make her shine on the water. She was the first J80 to join the Grenada Sailing Club fleet. She was shipped as deck cargo on a container ship. She sat at the port and we could see her from the water. We couldn’t wait to liberate her from the land to the sea.

JOXER

Joxer- is a 2008 J/80 built in France. Last port of call was Falmouth, England.  -followed J-Star and Jedi across the Atlantic. We looked all over the world for the best examples of this one design and found a treasure trove of J/80’s in excellent condition in the U.K. due to the short sailing season and passionate owners.
